THE MADE IN MANHATTAN PROJECT
The Made in Manhattan Project is a semester long course that teaches local high school students in the Charleston, Berkeley,and Dorchester County School Districts how to become young playwrights. Not only do students learn how to express themselves in a positive way, but they learn skills that they can utilize in the future.
Students meet once a week at the Circular Congregational Church in Downtown Charleston on Tuesdays at 4:00pm-5:30pm. Spencer Deering is the course instructor. He is the acting PURE Lab Director and Literary Manager.
Course materials are provided for the students. Course materials are include a workbook for students to keep notes and ideas in as well as the textbook “Young Writers,” by Dr. Daniel Sloope.
PURE is currently excepting applications for the Fall and Spring Semesters from interested students in the Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester County Schools. Application forms and information can be found below. Application deadline for the Fall Semester is August 13, 2011. The Fall emester will begin September 3, 2011 and will end December 15, 2011.
At the end of each semester, PURE hosts a showcase of short performances written by the students. Date and location for the showcase will be determined at a later time.
Also, at the end of each semester’s course, we request all students to take a few moments to fill out a short survey expressing how they feel about the program. A link to the survey can be found below.
